The STEM-Lab Licence from TECHNOSEUM Mannheim is a licence for science and technology enthusiasts. The new offer is designed to provide vocational guidance and is aimed at school stu-dents in years 7 to 10.
In the practical course, the young people receive hands-on introductions to a range of skills and techniques, from metalworking and soldering to chemical experiments and even building a scoot-er, and can experience traditional crafts on the various machines in the museum. An excursion to a company is also being planned. The 10-session course ends with the award of a STEM Lab Licence. This certificate can open doors to work experience positions or apprenticeships, and serve young people from challenging backgrounds as a low-threshold entry to technical and chemical careers.
The programme was developed by the TECHNOSEUM in collaboration with the Rhine-Neckar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Prof. Andreas Gundelwein, Director of the TECHNOSEUM, comments, “Thanks to support from TÜV SÜD, we have financing in place for our start-up phase up to 2026. The project is a major stepping-stone for the expansion of our edu-cational activities, including establishing a STEM centre at the TECHNOSEUM that will play a significant role for the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region as a whole.”
Gundelwein states that the project is making an important contribution towards encouraging young people to take up educational careers in technology and science and thus help to counter the skills shortage.
