The aim of Code Week is to inspire interest in digital technology in young people across state borders. This grass-roots movement is active throughout Europe and even beyond. Every October, regional hubs provide courses, workshops and talks on topics related to digitalisation, media and coding and addressed to a broad audience.
However, until 2022 the state of Bavaria did not have a regional hub that could advance the initiative. That changed when MINT-Labs Regensburg – a STEM-focused educational non-profit organisation – took the initiative and opened an office in the city with support from sources including Deggendorf Institute of Technology. In 2023, 318 events with over 4000 attendees were held in Bavaria.
The activities by MINT-Labs Regensburg focus on promoting the digital education opportunities provided in Code Week. Alongside this, the organisation addresses educational players including schools, libraries, STEM initiatives, youth centres and non-profit associations in regions that have previously been underserved in educational opportunities, and hold events in and beyond the region.
All its events are free or very low-cost; local organisers receive a small allowance for expenses. The TÜV SÜD Foundation will provide major support for the next Code Week, upcoming in October 2024.
