Brilliant inventions, ingenious tinkering, far-out inspirations: Supported by the TÜV SÜD Foundation, Munich Children’s Museum recently opened its latest exhibition, Tüftelgenies (Tinkering with Ingenuity), showcasing groundbreaking inventions from everyday life.
Bikes, trampolines, cars, jeans, skateboards, candyfloss – all of them are things that had to be invented once upon a time. But who invented them? And why? And what was the very first invention in the whole world? From May 2023 to January 2024, an exhibition at the Munich Children’s Museum, located directly at Munich’s main railway station, offered children aged from 6 to 14 the opportunity to discover the answers to these questions.
The exhibition enticed visitors into the multifaceted world of inventions in a playful and easily accessible way. The hands-on multisensory displays enabled children to proactively explore inventions over a timeline from the past to the present day, discovering how to use the inventions and occasionally even having to complete them for themselves or place them in a different context to find out more about them. By examining the various inventions in this way, the children were able to delve into the backgrounds to different physical phenomena, and enjoyed acquiring scientific knowledge in the process.
