Student project: Supporting up-and-coming talents, practical relevance and research

Democracy needs a culture of discussion and debate that is lived and breathed. The youmocracy initiative brings together young people with very different backgrounds and differing opinions and invites them to participate in public political debate. Democratic coexistence depends on our willingness to familiarise ourselves with a variety of opinions and solutions and develop an understanding of them.

A group of young adults participating in a discussion forumYoumocracy is aimed at school, vocational and university students and trainees who are interested in joining a dialogue within our free basic democratic order and furthering their education in this respect. With support from the TÜV SÜD Foundation and “Zukunftsstiftung Ehrenamt Bayern”, a Bavarian non-profit foundation for fostering voluntary engagement, Bavaria will serve as a pilot region for the establishment of non-partisan dialogue and a culture of open and respectful debate. The project aims to expand the proven approach of youmocracy by introducing science-related topics.

2023 and 2024 are marked by debate forums, school workshops and a Day of Democracy taking place in Bavaria. At these events, young people of all beliefs and persuasions have the opportunity to engage with social topics in which science has a particularly crucial role to play in democratic discourse.
