By engaging in independent experimentation, even kindergarten-age children can grasp everyday phenomena such as carbonation, magnetismand chain reactions, and develop an understanding of natural processes.
This is where the Gesellschaft für Umweltbildung Baden-Württemberg e.V. (GUB), a German regional non-profit devoted to environmental education, steps in, supporting model kindergartens where children are introduced to scientific research. The specialists from GUB help the kindergartens to incorporate experiments into the children’s routine and set up research corners. First and foremost, however, they equip the educators with the training they need to devise and perform their own regular research and experiments with the children in the future.
Inspiring an interest in natural sciences at an early age is already a huge achievement. To ensure this happens, the TÜV SÜD Foundation is supporting GUB in rolling out the project in 50 further kindergartens in South Hesse and the Karlsruhe area, to allow more and more children to live out their passion for research to the full.
