While computer and IT studies are already a core subject in some German states, there is a severe shortage of teachers training in the field. To combat this urgent need, the TÜV SÜD Foundation is providing funding for prospective IT teachers as part of the Zukunftsmission Bildung educational scheme of the Stifterverband association.
The funds provided by the Foundation are allocated as a total of 25 Deutschlandstipendium grants (Germany Grants) at the Universities of Rostock, Hamburg and Saarland. Grant-holders receive financial support for two years. This relieves them of the need to work alongside their studies with the accompanying risk of burnout, and reduces the risk of dropouts.
This boost to the numbers of qualified computer studies teachers represents an important step in combating the skills shortage in the digital sector. The grants help to consolidate a key future-forward subject as an integral part of education and offer young people the best possible conditions for the digital future.
