Increasing diversity in schools – Student Campus

Trainee teachers: Migration background as an advantage

Variation and diversity in the teaching profession: Student Campus offers 50 young people, many with migration backgrounds, a direct and handson opportunity to experience for themselves what the daily routine of teachers from various school types is like, and thus inspire their own career path for the future.

Teachers can build stronger connections with students from a migration background if they themselves have a similar history and can draw on broad multicultural experience. This aspect is taking on growing importance in schools of all kinds, from primary level to secondary and vocational schools.

The four-day event, which is organised by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, the State Institute for School Quality and Educational Research (ISB) and the Bavarian Network for Teachers with a Migration Background (Bayerisches Netzwerk für Lehrkräfte mit Migrationshintergrund, LeMi), thus has the objective of significantly boosting the numbers of teachers with migration backgrounds at all Bavarian schools.

The event is designed to awaken participants’ interest in teaching as a career and provide insight into the chances and opportunities it involves. Student Campus was held in the spring of 2023 and 2024, on both occasions with the support of the TÜV SÜD Foundation
