Social change is impacting on schools, as school classes grow more diverse and new educational mindsets are required that cater to all students’ needs.
However, aspects that are lacking in practice are individual attention and assistance in the classroom – a role that simply cannot be fulfilled adequately by a single class teacher for every student during the school day. Tackling the problem, two primary schools in Peissenberg had the idea of introducing classroom support staff for individual students. They received funding from the TÜV SÜD Foundation to turn their plan into reality.
Their “team teaching” method brings in teaching assistants to support all children in a class in line with their personal requirements. These may comprise helping students with special needs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia or physical disabilities, or students with a migration background experiencing language difficulties.
The teaching assistants take the stress out of school teaching and improve learning efficiency for all the students. With their support, teachers can focus on their core tasks. Following the launch of the primary school-level project in 2021, a second project phase is now applying the experiences gained previously, this time at local middle schools. It is likewise funded by the TÜV SÜD Foundation.
